Elizabeth Ann Dornaus

April 3, 1941 — November 10, 2020

Elizabeth Ann Dornaus, 79, lately of Hot Springs, passed away November 10, 2020, from Covid-19.

Born April 3, 1941, in Tulsa, Okla., she held a B.A. in History and a M.Ed. from the University of Tulsa where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. Her three-decade-long teaching career culminated as Director of Special Education at South Oakcliff High School in Dallas, Tex., where she taught special needs’ students for 18 years. Elizabeth also played an active leadership role as a Texas chapter representative of the American Federation of Teachers until her 2006 retirement. An avid reader and history buff, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, served on the USPS Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Council, and was a lifelong Methodist. She treasured family, children and animals, and was well-known for her love of good food, dancing, bridge, Scrabble and Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

Beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher, Elizabeth Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Perry and Aragene Lane Dornaus, formerly of Tulsa. Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Murdoch of Norman, Okla., and stepdaughter, Shelley Abrams of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; three sisters, Sara Seaman of Hot Springs, Margaret Dornaus Kelly of Ozark, Ark., and Carolyn Jennings of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
