Eleanor Ruth Crow Simmons Askew

Eleanor Ruth Crow Simmons Askew, age 92, of the Star of the West, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021.

She was born on August 7, 1928, in Vernon, Texas, the daughter of Harvey Crow and Sadie Miller Crow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Askew on January 28, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Dickie Simmons and Harvey Simmons; her daughter, Linda Fagan; her grandson, Michael Simmons; her parents; her brother, Herschel Crow; and her sister, Elice Sweeden.

She was Baptist in her faith, in her earlier years she worked for the Glove Factory in Glenwood and later retired after many years from Tyson Food in Nashville. She loved going fishing, no matter what the weather might be, hot, cold or even raining, she could be found out fishing in her many favorite spots. She also had a passion for playing Bingo, loved to do her scratch-offs and enjoyed going to casinos with her family and friends. Ruth was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, who dearly loved her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving son, Gerald Simmons of the Star of the West; four grandchildren, Cheryl Duncan of Hot Springs, Johnny Fagan of Amity, Amy Horn of Union, Oregon and Corey Simmons of Indiana; five great-grandchildren, Kylie Fagan, Bradley Fagan, Joseph Fagan, Braxton Simmons and Michael Simmons; her sister, Patsy Furr of Hot Springs; her dear friends who were always there for her, Dave and Norma Barron and Dewana House; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 2, 2021, in the Mount Joy Cemetery in Daisy.

Visitation will be held Sunday, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood.
