Elaine Anderson

Elaine D. Anderson, 88, was born October 15, 1927, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Thomas N. and Beatrice Denker. She grew up helping with everyday chores on a wheat and cattle farm. During grade school she attended a one room school house. She was a graduate of Enid High School, Phillips University in Enid, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. Elaine was a cytotechnologist and faculty member at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
Elaine married Reverend Howard W. Anderson, who served churches (Disciples of Christ) in Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church of Sherwood and an active member of Christian Women's Fellowship. She was particularly proud of helping to retire the debt of Chalice Hall. She volunteered with her church's food pantry ministry, which gives about one ton of food to families per week. She was also a member of ABWA (American Business Women Association).
She is survived by her son, Tom Anderson (Catherine McKinnon); granddaughter, Ashley Alderman (Jeff Whitfield); grandsons William Owens (Tonia) and Brian Owens (Laura); great-grandsons, Charlie and Bennett Owens; son-in-law, Ronald Owens; brother, Tom Denker (Jane); and sister, Janice Walker (Tom). She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Owens; and her husband, Rev. Howard W. Anderson.
Memorials may be made to the Food Pantry at First Christian Church of Sherwood, 2803 E. Kiehl Ave., Sherwood, AR 72120.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, August 13th at First Christian Church. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 800 p.m., Friday, August 12th at Smith - North Little Rock Funeral Home. Online obituary at www.SmithFamilyCares.com .
