Edwin James (Poppy) Oliver, 76, of North Little Rock died Wednesday, September 1, 2010. He was born March 21, 1934 in Brookfield, New York to Frank Edwin and Nellie Franklin Oliver. He joined the Air Force in 1955, stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base. He retired in 1975 and began working at Georgia Pacific in North Little Rock where he retired in 1995.
Poppy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Edwin James Oliver (Booby); and wife, Barbara Jean Stricklin. He is survived by son, James Richard Oliver (Tammy), daughter, Portia (Dee Dee) Evans (Bob), son, Timothy Wayne Oliver (Jennifer); eight grandchildren, Dylan and Brooke Troutman, Jamie and Taylor Oliver, Bryce Moore and Harley Oliver; three great grandchildren and special friend, Gary Hicks.
Poppy was a member of New Beginning Church in North Little Rock and was a very good, sweet man with a great compassion for others. He was a devout Christian with a strong devotion to God, loved his family and friends and all he wanted was to spend time with them. Some of his happiest moments were when he was with his children, grandchildren and friends whom he loved deeply. We will miss him greatly until we meet again at God's door.
