Edward Eugene Wilks, 82, of North Little Rock, passed away Monday, January 28, 2008 at North Little Rock Baptist Hospital after a short illness. Edward was born March 16, 1925 on a farmstead in Prairie County, Arkansas to Lewis and Ruth Gray Wilks (both deceased).
He is survived by two sisters, Alice Smith of Virginia and Frances Waller of Kansas; brother, James of Texas; and many dear nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Florence and one brother, Earl.
He served his nation honorably in an Army engineering battalion both during World War II and after the defeat of Japan as a member of the Army of Occupation on the Japanese mainland. After completing his military service, Edward returned to farming until his father?s death in 1961 when he traveled to the Northwest where he worked in the logging and lumber industry for many years in northern California, Oregon and Washington. While there he bought a small cabin cruiser and learned to scuba dive; exploring both ocean and freshwater diving. In his later years, he returned to Arkansas and worked for several years in a lumber store and in grounds keeping at a golf course in the North Little Rock area.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. A committal service will be at 12:00 P.M. Saturday at Fairmount Cemetery in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
