Edward Ray Mitchell, 68, of Bismarck went to sleep on Thursday, July 28, 2022 surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born December 9, 1953, to David Columbus Jr. and Jeanette Mathews Mitchell. He was retired from the Hot Springs Housing authority, where he was director of Maintenance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and best friend, Billy Mitchell, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Worley and Thelma Rose, and his beloved dog Biff.
Survivors are his wife of 49 years, Madge Mitchell; his daughter, Melanie McElrath and husband, Cubby, of Hot Springs, AR; his son, Edward Ray Mitchell II of Bismarck; his grandchildren, Carson Mitchell, Colin Mitchell and Myra Mitchell, all of Bismarck, Mason McElrath and Madison McElrath both of Hot Springs; his sister Judy Crum and husband Raymond of Conway AR; his sister-in-law Pamela Lewis and husband Brad of Spokane, WA; his brother-in-law Bobby Rose and wife Veronda of Pound, VA; several nieces, nephews cousins, beloved friends and his beloved dog, Pappy.
Ed was a man of many talents. He was a welder, a coalminer and a very skilled carpenter. He had a love of music and played guitar, dulcimer, keyboard and harmonica to name a few. If he wanted a different type of musical instrument he would design and make it. He was a talented wood carver and furniture maker. He could see the potential in a piece of wood and would turn it into a beautiful piece of art. Ed was also a gifted artist and enjoyed working in all forms of artistic mediums. He was an avid outdoorsman and rarely missed an opening morning of deer season.
Not one to be idle, Ed left behind many great attributes including several homes that he designed and built.
Ed enjoyed spending time with his family.
His hard work and dedication to his family will always be cherished and greatly missed. His legacy will live on through his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 3rd at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Miller officiating Burial will be later.
