Edward Givens, Sr

Edward Dale Givens, Sr., of Sparkman, passed to his heavenly home at the age of 93 on November 4, 2011 for a reunion with not only his Lord, but the love of his life, Louise. He was born April 17, 1918 in Sparkman, the son of the late Daniel Hall and Eva Culbreath Givens.

Dale lived during the depression and learned that with hard work and determination, one could succeed in his endeavors. He learned and taught his family to work hard, love each other, save for a rainy day, be faithful to your Lord and church, and you could have a great life.

Dale was a farmer, cattleman, timber man, and logger during his lifetime; timber and cattle being his pride and joy. Following his active working days he took great pride in working with his wife Louise on his "projects", which were many.

At the time of his death, he was the oldest member of New Hope Baptist Church and served as deacon for many years; always working and giving behind the scene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Frank Givens, a sister, Lillian "Sis" Barnes and three brothers and sisters who died at a very young age.

He is survived by three sons, Edward Dale Givens, Jr. and Judy Berry, Danny Givens and wife, Johnnie, Gene Givens and wife, Jeannie all of Sparkman; three daughters, Betty Bass and the late Roy Bass, Geneva Quarles and husband, Stan all of Arkadelphia, Rosemary Walker and husband, Richard of Sparkman; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special care givers, Barbara Koloff, Joanna Donahue, Linda Ford and Donna Key.

Visitation will be 5-8 PM Sunday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, November 7th at New Hope Baptist Church in Sparkman with Bro Rick Hyde, Bro. Jerry George, and Bro Jerry Holland officiating. Burial will be in Givens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mark, Jason, Anthony, Clark and Gregory Givens, and Clint Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Clay McMaster, Kevin Boyles, Brock McCorkle, Mark Mann, Dustin Smith, Brady Harmon, and Hank Sullivent. Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, P. O. Box 723, Bearden, AR. 71720.
