Edward Carey

Edward "Ed" Joseph Carey, 87, of Little Rock, passed away May 20, 2019.
Born in Groton, New York to Daniel Carey and Marguerite Hatch Carey, Ed graduated from Groton Central High and attended the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. After meeting at the university, he and Virginia Heinze married. After graduating, they moved to Groton, where he began his career at the Carey family farm while teaching/coaching at Groton Central High. After moving to Little Rock, he taught/coached at Joe T. Robinson and Catholic High, was Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, and retired in 2006 as an insurance agent.

Ed was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He enjoyed all sports, coaching football, basketball, and track and field. He was a member of the Groton High 1950 state championship basketball team and a member of the track and cross-country 1956 Southwest Conference championship-winning team at University of Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia; daughters, Lisa Carey and Cece McKay (Johnny), Little Rock; grandchildren, Paul McKay, Washington, D.C., and Carey McKay, Little Rock; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jean Taylor (George), Jim (Mary), Frank, Margaret Murphy (Henry), and Ellie Carey.

Ed loved his family, friends, and people in general; he never knew a stranger. He felt blest to have wonderful caregivers, doctors, nurses, and health professionals. Special thanks for all the loving care provided by Ramona, Tonya, Martha and Rosemary, and the CHI St. Vincent Home Health staff.
Visitation will be Friday, May 24 at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 7:00 at Christ the King Catholic Church, led by Deacon Dick Patterson. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Francis Malone on Saturday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Msgr. Hebert Endowment Fund or Catholic High.
