Dr. Edneil Elizabeth Fuller, 86, of Little Rock, passed away on February 13, 2011. She is now at peace with the Lord.
Edneil was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on December 14, 1924 to Neely Fuller, Sr. and Edna Lewis Fuller. She graduated from Manual Training High School in Muskogee and received both her Bachelor of Arts degree and her Master of Arts degree from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee before embarking upon a long career as a university educator in English. She also did postgraduate work at the University of Oklahoma, Syracuse University and Columbia University.
After having taught at Virginia State College and Lincoln University (Missouri), in 1952 she began a more than three decade teaching career at Arkansas AM&N College, now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Edneil devoted her life to the education of her students as she challenged them to the extent that they discovered from her a special kind of respect for, and appreciation of learning. In recognition of her contribution to the lives and successes of her many students, and for having led the institution successfully through two North Central Association re-accreditation reviews, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff conferred upon her the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in 2006.
She is survived by her sister, Fairfax Williams (Leon) of Atlanta, Georgia and brothers, Neely Fuller, Jr. (Dorothy) of Washington, D.C. and Joseph Fuller (Mildred) of Austin, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, February 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock, followed by interment at Haven of Rest Cemetery.
