Eda Smith Bishop, 84 of North Little Rock, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 20, 2010. She was born in Tilley, Arkansas on May 4, 1925 to William E. and Mildred Smith. She was raised in Vilonia and moved to North Little Rock after her marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Bishop; daughter, Doris Bishop; brothers, Ulis, Varis, Cleon, Clevie, and Carson Smith; and sisters, Letha Stanley and Floella Emison Barnes. She was a member of Park View Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Larry Bishop of Conway; one granddaughter, Jennifer Atilano and husband Armando; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Bishop was among the first women in the state to have a pest control license. She owned several businesses, including pest control, plant shop, gift shop, and grocery store. She worked at the Hays Center in North Little Rock until a stroke three years ago. She and friends that played music together at the Hays Center formed a band called Smittie and the Boys, and played and sang at nursing homes and retirement centers in the North Little Rock area. She also played on Friday nights at Sherwood Senior Center with numerous friends, and was known for her singing talents and playing the ukulele and guitar. Her beautiful smile, charming personality and quick wit were known by all of those who came in contact with her.
Thanks to nieces and nephew Darlene, Renee, and Morris for their unselfish hours they spent playing and singing for Mom the last several years. Thanks to Betty Nix for helping care for Mom and being a great friend to her the last 14 months. Thanks to all of Mom's friends and co-workers at the Hays Center in North Little Rock and Senior Center in Sherwood for making Mom's last few years special.
Thanks to doctors and nurses on the 4th floor north of Conway Regional for the care they gave Mom in her last days.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street, 758-1170.
