Col. Earl T. Newton, Jr., (Ret.) U.S. Army was born December 12, 1918 in Kansas City, Missouri to Earl Thomas Newton Sr. and Frances Emma Churchill. He passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock. Mr. Newton was a retired colonel in the U.S. Army, serving in W.W. II and Korean Conflict advancing through the ranks from private to colonel and awarded the Bronze Star for Valor, Army Commendation Medal and Purple Heart. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri in Kansas City in 1959. Mr. Newton worked for the Federal Highway Administration from 1962 ? 1980 where the last 16 of those years were spent in Washington, D.C. He was also active in his and his wife?s ancestral family history. He was a beloved father, grandfather and friend.
He was a member of the International Right of Way Association, member of the Reserve Officer Association of the U.S., (life member), member of the Association of the U.S. Army, National Audubon Society, (50 year member).
He is survived by his significant other, Martha Meredith of North Little Rock; one son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Mary Newton of North Little Rock; one daughter, Betty L. Corrigan of Springfield, Illinois; one sister, Maxine McMahon of Leawood, Kansas; granddaughters, Leigh Hanselman (Michael), Candace Powers, Tricia Phillip (Brad) Caroline Fitzsimmons, Deidra Peterman (Charlie), Shari Runnells and Karla Smith (Clay); grandson, Michael Thomas Corrigan(Melissa); 20 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 45 years, Eunice Newton and sister, Frances Lowery.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in North Little Rock. Burial will be in Little Rock National Cemetery.
