E. Gene Gilbert

E. Gene Gilbert, age 87, of Glenwood, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

He was born on February 8, 1935, in Jasper, Texas, the son of Leon Sunfield Gilbert and Alice Marguerite Allen Gilbert.  In 1954, he was married to Glenda Sue Spruce Gilbert.

He was employed with Verizon for many years until his retirement on August 31, 1993.  Gene enjoyed working and always staying busy.  He owned and operated a car wash in Amity and also one in Glenwood.  He also owned a cattle farm and raised long horn cattle at his home. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Gilbert of Glenwood; his son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Cindy Gilbert of Del Norte, Colorado; his daughter, Michelle Gilbert of Glenwood; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in the Bethel Cemetery with Bro. Kenny Williams officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Glenwood.
