Duel Artean "D.A." Fendley, age 88, of the Fendley Community near Amity, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 in Arkadelphia. He was born July 22, 1925 to Wiley K. and Georgia Bryant Fendley. He owned and operated Fendley's Dairy for many years and later was an independent truck driver. Duel was a member of the Oak Grove Community Church, and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over fifty years. He was a well decorated U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in several different campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Stella, Pidge, Gwendolyn and Nana Lola.
He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Marion Sue Rowe Fendley; four sons, Roy (Jeanie) Fendley and Duel "Tad" (Joanna) Fendley both of Fendley; W. L. "Dub" (Darlene) Fendley and Sammy (Kathy) Fendley both of Arkadelphia; one daughter, Carolyn (Doug) Shell of Arkadelphia; three brothers, C. L. (Adele) Fendley of Bismarck, Reuben (Peggy) Fendley of Arkadelphia, Gerald Fendley of Fendley; three sisters, Gladys Phelan of Dallas, Texas, Fraline Mathis of Sherwood, Julie (Carl) Garrett of Arkadelphia; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 5th at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia with Mike Fendley and Bryan Fendley officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Brushy Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
