Dr. James T. Blackmon age 77 of Arkadelphia died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his home. He was born August 23, 1932 in Ft. Worth, Texas the son of the late George Truett and Bessie Grace Hicks Blackmon. Dr. Blackmon was a 1950 graduate of Arkadelphia High School, a 1953 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree, and a 1964 graduate of the University of Arkansas College of Medicine.

Dr. Blackmon enlisted in the military service through ROTC in college in 1950, served on active duty from 1953-1958, U. S. Army Reserve from 1958-1962, in the U. S Army Reserve Medical Corps 1962-1992 and was discharged with the rank of Colonel.

Dr. Blackmon began practice in General Medicine and Surgery in Arkadelphia in 1968 and ended his office practice in 2006. He was an active staff member of Clark County Memorial Hospital and held numerous leadership positions.

Survivors include his step-son, Richard Thomas of Arkadelphia, AR; step-daughters, Lynn Judd of Bluffton, SC; and Catherine Conner of La Grange, KY; a brother, Kenneth Blackmon and wife Lillian of Arkadelphia AR; a sister Lillian Blackmon Crenshaw of Baltimore, MD; other survivors include nieces Stephanie Phillips, Pamela Bailey, and Cynthia Blackmon.

Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday May 22 2010 at the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1:15 until 1:45 PM Saturday prior to the service. Burial will be at 4:15 PM Saturday at Salem cemetery in the East End Community near Benton.
