Dr. Allen William "Dub" McClanahan died on February 1st, surrounded by his family. One day earlier he and his wife, the former Dorothy Boon, had celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

He was born on December 28, 1920, in Rector, AR, son of Myrtle Sigsby and August McClanahan. He spent his childhood in Hot Springs and attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, where he was editor of the Oracle Newspaper and ROTC Honor Cadet. After graduating in 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, serving first in the Tank Corp and later, as a Captain in the Air Corp, was a pilot in the Eastern Theater.

After WWII he studied dentistry at Baylor Dental School in Dallas, TX, graduating in 1949 as a member of the first class to attend on the GI Bill. These classmates held annual reunions until 2004.

Dr. McClanahan practiced dentistry for 36 years in Pine Bluff, AR. He and his wife raised two daughters, Kay Marie and Kathy Lynn. In addition to serving as President of the Southeast Arkansas Dental Association he was an active member of Lakeside Methodist Church where he served as Chairman of the Board of Stewards, sponsored the MYF, sang in the choir and was song leader of the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class which he and Dorothy helped to found. "Dub" was President of the Pine Bluff Lions Club and a frequent performer in Annual Lions Club Minstrel Shows, as well as the Jr. Auxiliary Follies. He was an avid quail hunter and fisherman.

In 1985, he suffered a stroke and was no longer able to practice dentistry. He and Dorothy retired to Heber Springs, AR. In 2004 they moved to Denton, TX to be near their children.

He was predeceased by his daughter Kathy who died in 2001 of complications following surgery for a brain tumor. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Kay McClanahan; one granddaughter, Shannon Flanagan; and two great-grandsons, Tristan and Keegan Flanagan, all of Denton, TX.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, February 10 at Lakeside United Methodist Church, 15th and Olive in Pine Bluff. Burial will be in Arkadelphia on Saturday, at 10:00AM in Rose Hill Cemetery.
