Dr. Jim "James Alton" Olander

Dr. Jim “James Alton” Olander, of Bismarck, passed away on October 8, 2023.

Jim was born on October 9, 1944, in Boulder, Colorado, the son of Alton John Olander and Vera Ida Sheets Olander. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Paul Olander.

He was a very intelligent man. Jim worked hard to further his education, earning a doctoral degree in chemistry at Louisiana State University. During his working career he worked in mining processing chemistry, when he retired Jim continued to read professional journals. He was a good cook and loved to read. Jim stayed close to and always loved his nieces and nephews. Jim will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Claire Olander of Boone, North Carolina; his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Marc Kadyk of Boone, North Carolina; his six nieces and nephews, Rachel and her wife, Teresa, Olander, Adam Olander, Matt Kadyk and his wife, Lisa Yung, and Molly Kadyk; his five great-nieces and great-nephews, Jack, Molly, Jin Marc, Jadyn, Warner, and Caleb; many extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, 209 North 3rd Street, Glenwood, AR 71943.
