Master Chief Hospital Corpsman, Kentucky Colonel, wordsmith, and world traveler Doyne Carroll Clem of North Little Rock passed away on February 27th in Conway. He was 78. In a Navy career spanning five decades, HMCM (SW) Clem served on four continents, including a tour with the First Marine Division during the Battle of Hue City where he earned the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat âV,â the Navy Combat Action Ribbon, and a Presidential Unit Citation. He later became the first Hospital Corpsman to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignia, earned an MBA from the University of Arkansas, and concluded his illustrious career as the Command Master Chief of the US Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy. Most notably, he married the former Judy Diane Christopher of Asheville,NC in 1962 with whom he shared his love for world travel, history, language, and adventure. He is survived by his three children; Faith, Nona, and Damian; a grandson, Kenneth; three great grandchildren; and four siblings. He will be laid to rest at 10 AM, Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Memorial services are under the direction of Griffin Leggett Conway Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to The Disabled American Veterans.
