Doyle Hammock, age 99, of Newhope, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019. He was born on August 28, 1920 in Point Cedar, the son of Walter Hardy Hammock and Pauline Belzoria Vaughn Hammock. On October 26, 1944, he married Ova Simmons Hammock who preceded him in death on April 20, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Hammock; his parents; three brothers, Walter Hammock, Dan Hammock and Horace Hammock; and one sister, Lucille Hall. Doyle was a United States Navy Veteran and served in World War II. He was a member and deacon of the Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was a farmer, raising cows, chickens and working the hay fields on an open cab tractor until he was 93 years old. He cherished his time on his tractor and felt he could accomplish any task if he could just use his tractor. He enjoyed his large garden and plowed it with a mule until 10 years ago. He wouldnt sell his vegetables, but enjoyed sharing with everyone. His hobbies included working hard and going to convention singings. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Mark Story of Newhope; his daughter-in-law, Sherry Hammock of Athens; four grandchildren and their spouses, Chad Hammock, Cole and Deborah Hammock, Marci Harrison and Maranda and Tim Politz; four great-grandchildren, Stailee, Milee, Allie and Lex; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 2, 2019, at Mount Joy Cemetery with Bro. Kenny Fant officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
