Douglas Lee Owens

On August 17, 2024, Douglas Lee Owens, beloved Husband, Dad, and Grandpa, was completely healed and is now walking the streets of gold with his Lord and Savior.

Douglas was born on March 31, 1951, in Upland, CA, to Burl Owens and Patricia Freeman. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jennifer Lynn, his son Brent Douglas, and his brother Donnie Owens.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Missy; his two daughters, Amanda Owens and Kristi Velek (Bill); his granddaughters, Lexi Velek, Savannah Velek, and Brynnley Coker; his bonus grandsons, Andrew, Nathan, and Brady Velek; his sister, Penny Sigfrid (Stuart); his brother, Dennis Owens (Leann); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Douglas graduated from Las Plumas High School in Oroville, CA, in 1969. He attended Los Angeles Baptist College in Newhall, CA, on a baseball scholarship. In 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Missy. Those who knew Doug were truly blessed. If he liked you, you had a friend for life. There wasn’t much he wouldn’t do for his family and friends. He loved to help and share his wisdom. The most important thing to Doug was his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He loved to talk to anyone who would listen and share his testimony.

Doug lived in Oroville, CA, for 40 years before moving to Glenwood in 1992. There, he held several jobs before eventually opening Glenwood Flooring, which he and Missy ran until they retired. Doug loved taking care of his cattle and cutting hay in the summers. If he was working, he was happy. He also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, and some of his most treasured memories were his trips to Montana to fish with his cousin Bobby.

Though he battled cancer and many other difficult health issues, Doug fought the good fight. He was a man of great strength and faith.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date, with details to come. All who wish to celebrate Doug’s life with us are welcome.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Matthew Hulsey, Glenwood Family Medicine, and Gentiva Hospice Care for the outstanding care and respect they provided to Doug.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home- Glenwood.
