Dorothy Deletta Tompkins

Dorothy Deletta Tompkins, born July 31, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Jewel Edward and Lorraine Morton Vandegrift. They moved from Michigan to Bryant and Little Rock, Arkansas in 1942, and then moved to Cleburne, Texas in 1953. She graduated in 1958, went to Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma and graduated in 1962. She received a Master’s degree from Northwest Nazarene University, taught music and voice for over 50 years and public school music for 10 years. She was the Music Pastor at church for 38 years, ordained as a Minister in Church of the Nazarene and was noted for her work in Children Camps and World Missions. She was voted “Who’s Who” in College in 1962. Many other awards, too numerous to mention, as a noted pianist and organist.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Joe Tompkins; sister, Betty June Clark (John) of Olathe, Kansas, sister-in-law, Mary Newsom of Overland Park, Kansas; children, Jason Lee Tompkins (Vicki), of Sherwood, Julie Phillips (Bruce), of Playa Vista, California, Judson Tompkins (Jessica) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nieces, Sylvia Williams (Jim), Deana Thorup (Dale); seven grandchildren: Ashton Butler (Chris), Jared Tompkins, Rachel De La Vega (Cesar), Robert Phillips, Grace Phillips, Aven Tompkins and Aela Tompkins; three great-grandchildren: Brice, Brinn and Bennett Butler; and many other friends, relatives and her special friend, Barbara Reis, of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A visitation will begin at 10:00 followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM Monday, November 1, 2021 at Brockington Road Church of the Nazarene in Sherwood. Burial will be 3:30 p.m., at Herman Cemetery, Hwy 91 West, Jonesboro, Arkansas.
