Dorothy Jeter Robinson (Mrs. Charles U. Robinson) died at her home in Little Rock on Saturday, October 28, 2006. She was born on May 12, 1910 in Bentonville, Arkansas, the youngest of four children of William Dow and Mary Keesee Jeter. She received her A. B. Degree from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and her M. Ed. from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She also attended Columbia University in New York, Colorado University, the University of Southern California, and the University of Sausalito in Mexico. She worked in Washington, D.C. for four years in the Office of Government Contracting, and was a teacher in the Little Rock School District from 1962-1973, teaching at Forest Park and McDermott Elementary Schools. She resigned in 1973 to become Director of Christian Education at First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, retiring as Pastor's Assistant on December 31, 1984.
Dorothy married Charles Ulric Robinson on March 31, 1945, and enjoyed a wonderful and loving marriage for 42 years until her husband's death in 1987. After retiring, she volunteered at the Arkansas Arts Center as a Vineyard Volunteer and on the Vineyard Board; at First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, teaching Bible studies, Sunday School classes, and coordinating the L.I.F.T. (Laity Involved in Free Transportation) program; and other community organizations until her death. She was a member of PEO, the Forty Listeners Book Club, Life Member of PTA and Life Member of United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Women's Emergency Committee to Save Our Schools and the STOP Campaign.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Lucille Jeter Ball, and her brother, Louis Jeter. She is survived by her son, William S. "Bill" Robinson (Harriet) and daughter, Ann Robinson Cooper; granddaughter, Susan Cooper Whisnant (Bob) and great-grandchildren, Brent, John and Page Whisnant; one sister, Madeleine Paddock, of Lexington, Kentucky; special friend and caregiver, Deneen Hill; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Mark Dyer, M. D. and Arkansas Hospice for the loving care she received from them.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 8th and Center Streets, Little Rock, Arkansas, with The Rev. Dr. Michael Mattox, The Rev. Dr. Ed Matthews, The Rev. Louis "Biff" Averitt, and The Rev. John Fleming officiating. After the service and the interment of her ashes in the FUMC Columbarium, a reception for friends and family will be held in Fellowship Hall.
