Dorothy Graves Martin of Little Rock and Pine Bluff was born March 17, 1924 to the late Basley Carl Graves and Francis Elizabeth Neikirk Graves. She passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the age of 85. She was a proud "Zebra" of Pine Bluff High's graduating class of 1942. She was one of the first women to run and manage a plumbing supply company in the state of Arkansas. She has continued working and managing a plumbing business in Little Rock from 1960 until a few days ago when she left us and passed away.
She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and MawMaw. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert Floyd Martin, son, Robert Sanford "Sandy" Martin and two brothers, William Henry Graves and Carl Jeffrey Graves.
She is survived by her sons, Joe D. Torres and Carl L. Martin; daughters, Jeanne M. Atchley, Janelle E. Martin and Michelle E. Martin; sister, Ruby L. Jackson; niece, Kathryn E. Rand; nephew, Carl J. Graves, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Robert R. Ellis, Christopher L. Ellis, Melissa J. Cox, Jeffrey L. Martin, Rose Decomo, Wendi Arnold, Kathy Fink and Irene Mills; and thirteen wonderful great-grandchildren and leaves behind a host of relatives and friends. She will be missed also by her two special "lap" friends, Zipper and Bear Martin.
Services will be Monday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock, officiated by Rev. Bert Thomas, followed by burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
