Doris Marie Bishop, nee Laudenslager, died on August 15th, at her home in Conway, Ark. She was 72. She was born on March 21, 1949, in Philadelphia to Marie and Richard Laudenslager.
Eager to get going, she was born premature on the living room sofa. Throughout her life, she jumped first and looked second. She was funny, intelligent and passionate, and there was always a devilish glint in her eye. In October 1965, she eloped with her high school sweetheart, Randolph Bishop, who preceded her in death in 1984.
A talented artist, Doris opened a ceramic shop in New Jersey, where she taught ceramics, before adopting Arkansas as her home. In Arkansas, she developed a love for the batik method of pysankyâusing both traditional Ukrainian patterns, as well as modern symbols like the Zodiac.
She loved to cook, and her home was often the gathering place for family and friends. She was always so proud of her three daughters.
Doris is predeceased by her husband, Randy, her fiancé Roger Hartman, her parents, her siblings, Patricia and Richard Laudenslager, and her great grandson, Tucker.
She is survived by her sister, Marie Rosenthal, and her daughters, Lisa Harlan, Angela Thomas, and Jessica Hashimoto, and their husbands. She had 9 grandchildren: Randy, Megan, Sydney, Joshua, Dylan, Alicia, Katelyn, Aaron and Amie; 7 great grandchildren: Molly, Oran, Aurie, Paisleigh, Levi, and one on the way, as well as many friends, including Marcia Tolomeo. A source of great pleasure and company was her Golden, Maddie, who watched over her until the end.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Community School of Cleburne County, 74 Cleburne Park Rd, Heber Springs, AR 72543; 501-362-0943, would be appreciated.
