Doris Fielder Munden Johnston, 76, of Little Rock, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2011 surrounded by several members of her family. She was born in Helena, Arkansas to the late Cecil and Eunice Fielder and was a graduate of Helena High School. In 1953, she married Bill Munden.
Doris and her Dad owned and operated Phillips County Material and Mississippi River Gravel Companies from 1967-1976. In 1972, she moved to Little Rock and worked for Rainey Realty, Arkansas Law Enforcement Association and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. At the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Doris moved up the ranks, from mail girl to Secretary of the Chief Fiscal Division, to Supervisor of the Licensing Section and finally to Office Manager of the Information and Education Division. She retired from the Commission in November, 2000 after 20 years of service.
Doris was an accomplished cook, specializing in gourmet Southern cooking. For the past several years, she provided desserts for the Thursday night bridge games at the Little Rock Duplicate Bridge Club, and also provided food for tournaments, Christmas parties and other events at the club.
She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Charles "Lew" Johnston; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Pat Fielder of North Little Rock; children, Donna Williams and husband, Louis of Hot Springs Village, Susan Munden Allen of Princeton, New Jersey and William D. Munden of El Dorado; and three grandchildren, Amos Richards and Lucas Richards of Fayetteville and Hannah Allen of Princeton.
