Doris Adcock

Doris LaVerne Adcock, 89, of North Little Rock passed away Sunday, September 6, 2020.  She was born on March 31, 1931 in Pettus, Arkansas to James Lawrence and Genetta Jones.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years, Richard L. Adcock, Jr.; daughters, Carolyn Ann Wellenberger and Connie LaVerne Hay; sister, Muriel Dixon; and brother, Don Jones.  She is survived by one son, Rick Adcock (Margaret) of Bartlett, Tennessee; granddaughters, Tiffany Sparks (David) of North Little Rock and Anna Leatherwood (Cory) of Bartlett, Tennessee; grandsons, Robert Wellenberger (Savannah) of Connecticut and Matt Wellenberger (Carrie) of England, Arkansas; sisters, Margie McDougald and Barbara Rainey, both of North Little Rock; and son-in-law, John Hay of North Little Rock; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved as her own children.

Doris (aka Nanny, Nannie, Aunt Doris) was a beauty operator by trade.  She filled her days with haircuts, sets, perms, and plenty of conversation.  She took pride in her job and had a beauty shop in her home for many years in Rose City.  While working at home, she was a loving wife and mother to her three children.  She had special bonds with her grandkids and left lasting impacts on her great grands, as well.

Doris was a devoted member of Levy Church of Christ and a lifelong Christian.  She knew the Bible intimately.  She desired to know God and she passed that desire onto others often.  She was always willing to share God’s word to open ears, and many that were closed; yet, she had faith that her words would ultimately be heard.

Her final few years were traumatic having lost Dick, Carolyn, and Connie.  Her mind just could not process the loss.  She had to leave her home and move to Lakewood Nursing and Rehab and they treated her well…as family.  Eventually, she began to thrive.  She had made friends and was continuing to engage people in conversation and pass on the good news of Christ.  She was finally in a good place, had persevered through life’s trials, thanked God for all of them and sought to learn something from each one.  She was a strong woman and battled through adversity like no other.  She won her battle and has received her greatest reward.
