Donald Ray Whitney, age 79, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017. He was born on March 2, 1938 in Coolidge, Arizona, the son of Raymor Whitney and Nola Mae Thrash Whitney. On March 29, 1958, he was married to Virginia Hancock. He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Ray Whitney; his parents; and his brother, Bill Whitney. He was a salesman for Rainbow Baking Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. After retirement, he and Virginia moved to Glenwood where he became active in the community and served as a Glenwood City Councilman. His hobbies included making arts and crafts from his skills of metalworking and woodworking. He enjoyed fishing, camping and loved being with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Whitney of Fayetteville; three daughters, Stephanie Pavey of Cincinnati, Lori Mahler of Fayetteville and April Austin of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Baker, Jessica Fluegel, Bryan Whitney, Robert Mahler, Dr. Stewart Mahler, Nicholas Mahler, Travis Mahler, Brandon Austin and Amanda Austin; eleven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Kathy Hensley of Prescott, Arizona. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 14, 2017, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Jack Herring officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Mahler, Stewart Mahler, Nicholas Mahler, Travis Mahler, Brandon Austin, Donald Gene Watson and Stacy Watson. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
