Dolores Pierson, 96, of Hot Springs, died peacefully on January 8, 2022. She was born on November 14, 1925 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Ralph E. and Helen Mae (Davis) Tiefel. She is preceded in death by her brother, Ralph M. Tiefel and her husband of sixty-six years, Roy A. Pierson.
She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated with distinction from the University of Kansas City with a degree in English. Following graduation, she taught high school English. She attended summer school at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she met Roy. They were married in 1951, moved to Denver, and raised two children. Dolores applied her teaching skills to weather the challenges that comes with parenting by tolerating childhood antics and guiding development in a loving manner. Both she and Roy worked for the Gates Rubber Company, retiring from there in 1986.
While living in Denver for 61 years, Dolores was active in the Presbyterian church, singing in the choir, working as a deacon, and serving with Roy as Skippers in the Presbyterian Mariners. She loved to travel, and saw all 50 states and many countries. She enjoyed painting landscapes and creating scrapbooks of the places she visited. She loved entertaining and keeping people together, including frequently hosting a Pinochle group of friends in Denver. She and Roy were active in the Gates Retirees Club, and she wrote their newsletter for many years. In 2012, she and Roy moved to the Atrium in Hot Springs to be closer to family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs. Throughout the COVID pandemic and as her physical health declined in later years, Dolores continued to exhibit her positive outlook, dry humor, and compassion for others.
Dolores is survived by her daughter Debbie (Rick) Perryman of Hot Springs Village; son Lee (Sheryl) Pierson of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Emily (Steven) Reynolds, Alyssa Pierson (Bryan Teague), Kelsey Pierson; great grandchildren Oliver Reynolds and Gracie Teague; extended family and many wonderful friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Atrium at Serenity Pointe for their compassionate care of Dolores.
