Diana M. Sims

Diana M. Sims, 73, of Sherwood, passed away January 3, 2023.  Diana also known as “Brenda” to her Texas family, or “Dee” to her Arkansas family was born November 22, 1949, in, Galveston, TX.  She graduated from Sam Houston High School, Huntsville, TX class of 1968. A U.S. Air Force veteran, she was a Senior Veterans Service Representative for the Department of Veterans Affairs for over 30 years. Diana loved her family, to go on cruise vacations, cook, listen to the blues, and drink Patron Margaritas. Loved by all, she was always willing to give or lend a helping hand. Although being “Momma” was her joy; being “Nana” was her greatest accomplishment.  Diana “Brenda” is loved and will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Micaela Akis- Battles and Delonna Garrett (Brian); grandchildren, Brian McCarty, Sr., Briauna Battles, Kelvin Battles II and Andrick Stewart, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Brian McCarty, Jr., Arianna King (Tru) and Zuria McCarty; sister, Doris Hill; sister-in-law Carmen Irving: brother-in-law, Cutris Peete (Bonnie); nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Sims, Sr., son, Jason T. Akis, father, Cleo Irving, mother, Syble Josey Irvin, and brothers, Billy Ray Irving and Willie Joe Irving.
