Dexter ?Dick? Davis, 84, of North Little Rock passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Arkansas Hospice Center. Dexter was born in Umpire, Arkansas on February 4, 1925 to J.W. and Alma Manasco Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, ?Dickie? Davis and his wife, Anna Jean Hodges Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley H. Davis; son, Ron Davis (Edna); three daughters, Mary Beth Vowell (Bill), Sharon Spears (Danny) and Vickie Carter (Tony); ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews all of whom loved him dearly; three brothers, Joel Ray (Ruth) of Amarillo, Texas, Jackie (Jeannie) of Santa Maria, California and Don (Vicki) of St. Leonard, Maryland; and two sisters, Johnnie Weber, of El Reno, Oklahoma and Jane Gibson (G.L.) of Newcastle, Oklahoma.
Dexter joined the Navy at the age of 18 and served during World War II. After an honorable discharge, following the war he joined the Arkansas National Guard with 38 ? years of military service, as Chief Warrant Officer 4 and Mechanical Maintenance Foreman. Dexter has been a member of First Baptist Church of Sherwood since October 20, 2002, where he served as a Deacon. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1985 at Pike Avenue Baptist church and also served as Deacon at Baring Cross Baptist Church. He served on many committees for the churches, but his greatest pleasure was as a greeter where he could relate to the members, visitors, and children and receive his ?hugs?. He visited church prospects for many years with his friend Bill Ellzey. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and membership at Mt. Sinai Masonic Lodge #749. He was an avid Razorback Booster and deer hunter.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday at First Baptist Church of Sherwood. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
