Derek Ellis Lind, was born on September 24, 1962 in Spartan, Tennessee. Son of the late Teddy and Beulah Lind, he graduated college from UALR with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Derek was bilingual, and because of his love for Germany, dreamed of moving there someday. He served in the Air Force National Guard for over 7 years. He had a pilot's license and enjoyed flying. He will be missed by many, but we'd like to think he's flying forever now.
He is the son of the late Maj. Teddy Joe Lind (retired USAF) and Jean Lind Gordon. He is survived by his mother and siblings, Tedra Lind Duck (John) and Jarrod Lind (Richard), and nephews Austin, Tyler, and Parker.
Derek was lovingly titled, "Uncle Zeus". He never married or had children of his own, but he had a large "adopted family" including life-long friend, Tess Galbraith, her son, Rocky Weaver and his wife, Chelsea and their 7 children: Jayden, Haven, Kirsten, Trusten, Trenton, Chandler and Riley. He was always willing to help others, but quick to speak his mind and teach others. He enjoyed playing chess and treating the kids to "adventures".
A memorial service is planned for 3:00 PM Monday, April 9, 2018 at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before the service, at 2:00 PM. Online guestbook at
