Debra Denice Johnston

January 3, 1960 — March 9, 2025

Alexander

Debra Denice Johnston, affectionately known as Debbie, passed away on March 9, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on January 3, 1960, she brought joy and warmth to the lives of those who knew and loved her.

Debbie was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Gary Johnston, of Alexander, Arkansas. She leaves behind a cherished family, including her daughter Kristy Byrd and son-in-law Chuck of Benton, Arkansas, as well as her adoring granddaughters: Paige Byrd, Kayla Johnston, and Madelyn Bullock. Debbie is also survived by her brother, Marlon Gentry of Hot Springs, Arkansas, her special cousin Sonya Skinner, and a multitude of family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odale and Wanda Sue (Taylor) Gentry; her grandparents Amores Wyatt and Flora Ellen Gentry, and Walter and Ruth Edna Taylor; and her brother Jeff Gentry.

Debbie lived a life full of passion and interest. She enjoyed the thrill of treasure hunting at yard sales and flea markets, a delightful pastime she affectionately referred to as "junkin." For years, she operated a booth at Hidden Treasures Flea Market, fostering friendships with fellow vendors and customers alike. Music held a special place in her heart as well—she often found solace on her front porch listening to country music, frequently accompanied by her furry companion, “Come Here.”

Family was the cornerstone of Debbie’s life. She treasured moments with her loved ones and looked forward to gathering with her lifelong friends, Peggy Allday and Peggy Hodge. Together, they shared memories of exchanging plants, embarking on casino ventures, and enjoying shopping outings that spanned decades.

In her earlier years, Debbie embraced the great outdoors, relishing opportunities for hunting, fishing, and camping. A talented cook, she shared many meals filled with love, and her skills extended to upholstery—she could create and restore anything with a perfectionist’s touch.

The family expresses special heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at Arkansas Hospice, whose compassionate care provided comfort to Debbie in her final days.

A graveside service will be held to honor her life on March 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Summit Cemetery in Benton, Arkansas.

Debbie Johnston will be remembered not just for her vibrant spirit but for the love and joy she brought into the lives of those around her. She will be greatly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
