David Wade Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 6th, 2023 at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on July 2nd, 1957 in Manila, Arkansas to his loving parents Robert Tracey and June Marie (Morris) Johnson.
David lived a life full of dedication and service. He served in the United States Army and later retired from North Little Rock Waste Water after many years of loyal and committed service. His strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to his duties made him highly respected within his career.
When David wasn't working hard, he found joy in spending time with his family. He adored his daughter Christian "Chrissy" Matthews, whom he affectionately called "Punkin Doodles." His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment he spent with them. David had a natural talent for making people laugh; his sense of humor lit up every room he entered. He found amusement in giving people nicknames and even had a few playful monikers for himself including "Johnson," which his grandchildren would fondly call him. Other humorous names such as "The Enforcer," "Attorney at Law," "King of Love," and even "Chicken Farmer" showcased his lighthearted spirit.
A passionate sports enthusiast, David was a diehard fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Los Angeles Rams. He followed their games with unwavering dedication and took pleasure in cheering them on with friends and family.
David's caring nature extended beyond laughter and entertainment; he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those around him. Whether it was a family member or a friend in need, David would go above and beyond without hesitation. His selflessness touched the lives of many; he had an innate ability to identify when someone needed support and always made sure they received it.
On November 13th, 2023, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, a graveside service will be held to honor and remember David. The service will begin at 12:00 PM and will provide an opportunity for his loved ones to gather, share memories, and bid their heartfelt farewells. The cemetery's picturesque setting, located at 1501 W Maryland Ave, will serve as a peaceful backdrop for his final resting place.
David was preceded in death by the love of his life and constant companion-his precious wife, Vicki Johnson. Together, they shared an undying love for each other. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Robert Tracey and June Marie (Morris) Johnson, and his siblings Tracy Johnson, Janie Johnson, Bobby Johnson, and Susie Strom. Although he may be gone from this world, the beautiful memories he leaves behind will remain eternally cherished.
David is survived by his daughter Christian "Chrissy" Matthews and her loving husband Jason. He held a special place in his heart for his adoring grandchildren: Gage Smith and his wife Maddie, Clayton Smith, Kaleb Matthews and his wife Rayea, and Landon Matthews. His great-grandchildren Zayden Smith, Riverlynn Page-Lee, and Paxton Matthews brought him immeasurable joy.
In addition to his immediate family, David is survived by his caring sisters Laura Smith and her husband Dallas and Mary Turner. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Terri Kinder and her husband Brian, Deana McNeil and her husband Steve; brother-in-law Bobby Griggs; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who adored David dearly.
David's departure has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His spirit of laughter, compassion, and dedication will forever be remembered. While we mourn the loss of this incredible individual today, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived and the lasting impact he made on our lives.
Forever in our hearts, David Wade Johnson will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
