David Holmes "Papaw" Phillips, age 74, of Olmstead, joined the Angels on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. David was born to the late Galloway and Geneva Phillips on December 22, 1936 in Higginson, Arkansas. He retired from A.M. F. Cycle and A.G.L. Cooperation. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Papaw left a lasting impression on everyone he met by speaking his mind. He always had words of wisdom to help guide us through the journey of Life and Papaw was "always right". He swelled with pride when talking about his family and his grandchildren who were his most precious treasures. He taught us all that family is the most important thing.
David is preceded in death by six brothers, two sisters, and one grandson, Lawson David Phillips. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Billie Jo Purdum Phillips; four children, David (Lorey) Phillips, JoAnn (Rodney) Davis, Danny (Kem) Phillips, and Pam (Rob) Edison all of Olmstead; one brother, Joe Phillips of Jacksonville; one sister, Martha Angeles of Crestview, Florida; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Donations can be made to Arkansas Hospice, 14 Parkstone Circle, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72116.
A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday in the North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest registry at www.nlrfh.com.
