David Andrew Griffin, of Conway, was called Home to be with our Lord on February 6, 2016, at the age of 78. David was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, on November 24, 1937, the son of Noble Clarence Griffin and Pearle Mae (Maxson) Griffin, the youngest of 11 children. An avid volunteer, he provided support for youth sports including as a referee, the Master Gardeners and his church. He served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church of America for many years and was a current member at Christ Church Conway. David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends laughing and enjoying life. He was proud to be known as the prankster of the group. He became well known for his delicious home-grown tomatoes and beautiful roses. His most recent endeavor was learning to cook, specializing in Italian Beef sandwiches. A self-taught computer programmer since 1958, he worked on the very first computer, The Oracle. He was employed by various companies including Oak Ridge Laboratories and AT&T where he helped invent and design such functions as call waiting and call forwarding. David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan (Allard) Griffin; 2 sons: Ronald (Michelle) Griffin of Bensenville, Illinois and Mark (Sheila) Griffin of North Little Rock, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren: Christopher (Heather) Hogue, Audrina Griffin, Gina (Amos) Dillman, Kurtis Griffin and Brittany Griffin; 3 great-grandchildren: Bryana Griffin, Xander Huyck and Annalynn Hogue. He is also survived by one brother, John (Beverly) Griffin of Greenville, Texas and one sister Becky Schleusner of Fenton, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 6 sisters. A Celebration of Life Service will be officiated by Pastor Kevin Hale at Christ Church Conway, 705 Deer Street, Conway, Arkansas 72032 on Saturday February 20, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Christ Church Conway.
