David Downes

David Wesley Downes, 92, of Oppelo passed away December 23, 2020.  He was born May 19, 1928 in Boone County to the late Lawrence and Nellie Downes.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janell Downes; two infant boys; daughter, Jeannie Anderson; and siblings: Joyce Stites and Bill Downes; grandson, Kenny Downes; and great-grandson, Wesley.

David was a skilled brick layer and a member of the BAC bricklayers union. He owned and operated Downes Masonry. He enjoyed hunting and tinkering on old trucks and small engines.

Survivors include his children:  David R. Downes of Ward, Richard (Marion) Downes of McRae, Pam (Larry) Payne of Oppelo and Allan Downes of Cabot; grandchildren: Becky, Vicki, Rochelle, Nyla, Ashley, Chris, Crystal, and Angela; and several great, and great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Ace and Grover Downes of Harrison and several extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home.  Funeral will begin at Noon, Monday December 28, 2020 at the funeral home.  Graveside service will be at 2:30 at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Faulkner County.
