David Blackwell, 83, of Little Rock, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008. Born June 28, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Phenton and Eva Britt Blackwell, he was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, a 32nd degree Mason and a deacon at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church. He was a carpet designer and decorator for Hills Carpet and Martinous Oriental Rug Co.
He lived a full and active life of service to his church, which extended to his many friends and neighbors and everyone he met. He enjoyed golf, square dancing with Elizabeth and helped organize the first Mental Health Group, Arkansas Chapter (NAMI). David loved his time with Debbie in her home near Wye Mountain, enjoying the nature he saw there. He especially cherished his time with friends, family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth and granddaughter, Taunya Arduengo. He is survived by his son, Jimmy Blackwell of Little Rock; three daughters, Pam Anderson (Gary) of Little Rock, Sandra Williams (John) of Perryville and Debbie Blackwell of Bigelow; a sister, Robbie Heflin (Jim) of Warsaw, Virginia; cousin, Sarah McNeal of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10 at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Randy Hyde. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock.
