Darryl Lee Capps, 58, of Cabot, passed away February 22, 2022 at his home. A Celebration of Darryl’s life is scheduled for 11:00 on Monday, February 28, 2022, at New Life Church, 107 Commercial St. in Cabot.
The family will greet friends at the church one hour before the service. Interment will follow immediately after the service in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cabot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Danny Capps.
Darryl was born April 20, 1963, in Sherman, Texas, to Walter and Pearl Capps. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1981. He married Sandra in 1982. In 1986, they welcomed their daughter Courtney.
Darryl worked for Anderson-Clayton Foods, Gibson’s Pharmacy/APS/Omnicare, (where he worked his way from part-time delivery staff to branch manager in just over 10 years), and later, Sunrise Home Health Services.
In 2002, Darryl and Sandra adopted four young siblings, growing their family from three to seven overnight.
Ministry was a priority for Darryl. He had a huge heart for children. He directed several Sunday School programs and developed many unique ways to connect with children. In 2005, he relocated his family to Arkansas, to pursue a Children’s Pastor opportunity. His burden for children and young people led him to the CASA program in Little Rock. Beginning his tenure as a volunteer CASA, Darryl soon accepted full time employment with the organization, and in 2013 was chosen to lead the program as Executive Director. His passion for marginalized children was unquestioned and unrivaled.
Darryl was an artist in every sense. He was ultra-creative. He wrote music and songs. He penned complete plays. Give him a sock, a coat hanger and a balloon, and in a few minutes, he would turn it into a puppet show that would entertain all ages. Hundreds of fans will never forget Jonathan the Puppet, from Darryl’s time touring across Texas with The King’s Clown. More recent fan favorites include Slim and Skeeter from the series of dinner theatre productions at New Life Church/Cabot. He was spontaneous, witty and loved to laugh. His personality was larger than life and he absolutely commanded the room!
Darryl is survived by his bride of forty years, Sandra; his children: Courtney DaLynn Flynt (Seth), Jessica Marie Capps, Maggie Jo Capps, and Jonathan Taylor Capps; grandchildren: Kaplan, Rylan, and Teagan Flynt, and Lee Capps; mother-in-law Patricia Baker; extended family, and a host of friends whom Darryl considered ‘family’!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to CASA in Darryl’s name at pulaskicountycasa.org
