Darnelle Gentry Friar, 89, died peacefully on March 29, 2014, with her loved ones by her side. Darnelle was born in Dumas, Arkansas to E.R. and Carrie Henry. She was the 5th of 8 siblings. Little Rock was her home for over 40 years before moving to Kailua, Hawaii, after her marriage to Col. Clyde Friar in 1986. She described her life with Clyde as the happiest 25 years of her life. They enjoyed traveling together and had friends all over the world, but her favorite place to be was home. She loved to host dinner parties, and her homemade rolls were everyone's favorite. Besides being a great cook, she was a master gardener. She loved God's creation and appreciated all things beautiful, especially flowers!
After her beloved, Clyde, died in 2011, she returned to Little Rock. She cherished her family and friends and will be missed by many.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Bounds of San Miguel, Mexico; two brothers, E.R. and Sterling Henry of Dumas; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Pam Gentry, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jessica and Todd Brogdon; great-grandchildren Rebecca and Ben Brogdon, all of Little Rock; and many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Dar!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; three sisters, Reba Brown, Rena Leek, and Retha Griffin; and one brother, R.A. Henry.
The family will celebrate Darnelle's life by honoring her at a private memorial service in Dumas. Family requests no flowers. Memorials can be made to Bridge2Rwanda, PMB 322, 1818 No. Taylor- Ste B, Little Rock, AR 72207 or your favorite charity.
