Daniel (Dan) Wright McKinstry, 81, of Little Rock, died Sunday, March 25, 2007. Dan was born April 14, 1925 in Wilmar, Arkansas to Dorothy and B. W. McKinstry. Upon graduation from Wilmar High School, Dan enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. After completing his freshman year, he was accepted into a Navy Officer Training Program, graduating later from Notre Dame University Midshipman School as an Ensign. He finished his three-year Navy Service aboard the USS Key DE-348. Following military service, he returned to UAM for another year and graduated. He played on the varsity basketball team during his college years. After graduating, he became a high school football and basketball coach at Wilmar and Wilmot, Arkansas. Dan later attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and received his Master Degree in Education. Dan was an active UAF alumnus and Razorback fan.
Dan began his career with the Arkansas Inspection and Rating Bureau in 1953 and retired from Commercial Risk Services in 1986. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Jeanne Henigan McKinstry of Little Rock; his son, Daniel Mark McKinstry of Miami, Florida; his daughter, Marcia McKinstry Watkins and husband, Rick of Little Rock; and three grandchildren, Win Watkins, Kate Watkins and Sarah McKinstry. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley McKinstry Burks and husband, James of Wilmar, Arkansas; his brother, Hardy McKinstry and wife, Janice of Monticello; and a host of nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished by family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 27, at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. The funeral will be on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Ann Harrison. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 6401 West 32nd St., Little Rock, AR 72204 or to one's favorite charity.
