Daniel Wayne Gathright, age 62 of Arkadelphia passed away Thursday, Jan 25, 2007. Born July 8, 1944 in Nashville, AR, he was the son of Archie Lee and Wirta Faye Hussey Gathright. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, Frank & Minnie Gathright and Oliver Dee and Maude Hussey. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Shayron Looney Gathright; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Amy Gathright of Frisco, TX; grandchildren, Abby and Austin Gathright; father, Archie Gathright of Magnolia, AR; sister and brother-in-law, Maretta & Danny Bullock of McNeil, AR; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gaye & James Calhoun of Magnolia and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dan attended Magnolia High School, Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University-Magnolia), and Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. During his college years, he worked as a dispatcher at the Magnolia Police Dept and later was in shipping and receiving at Firestone Coated Fabric in Magnolia. After completing his education, he did his residency at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, AR; he was assistant administrator at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis, AR. In August 1979, Dan joined Baptist Medical System as administrator of Twin Rivers Medical Center in Arkadelphia and was a administrator/senior vice president of Baptist Health at the time of his death. His professional affiliations included American College of Health Care Executives, Arkansas Young Administrator's Forum, SW Arkansas Hospital Council, Arkansas Hospital Association Board.
Dan was an active member of First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. His community activities included Arkadelphia Rotary Club, Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce Board member, Citizens Against Alcohol & Drug Abuse, American Red Cross (Clark Co. Chapter) Clark Co. United Way (President 1990-1991) and Arkadelphia Band Boosters (President 1990-1991)
A Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, Jan 27th at the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Magnolia at 4:00 PM under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Those who wish to honor Dan's life may do so by making contributions to First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia Building Fund.
