Cory Thomas Cress, age 44, passed away May 17, 2023. He was born October 4, 1978, to Thomas and Leah (Carden) Cress in Houston, TX. He spent his middle school and high school years on the varsity tennis, soccer, and swim teams. He was elected president of the National Junior Honor Society in middle school, where he had to give a very challenging speech but overcame his fears and survived it. He graduated from Austin High School in Richmond, TX and went on to join the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Texas A&M where he graduated with honors and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
He spent his summers at Camp Periwinkle, a summer camp for kids with cancer. He did this alongside his older brother who is a cancer survivor and became a camp counselor in his later years. After graduation from Texas A&M, he went on to become a professional registered engineer and began his career as a control systems engineer. Cory was known for his integrity, hard work, dedication, being one of the best brothers anyone could ever ask for and phenomenal dancing skills that just made you feel so happy to be around him as often as you could. Cory always made the underdog in any room feel welcomed and loved like family no matter what their story was and was truly one of the most caring persons you’ve ever met as evidenced by both of his boys who are a true reflection of whom Cory was at his core level.
Cory was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Caren Bryant Cress; two sons, Cole Thomas Cress and Quinn Reiter Cress; two step-daughters, Taylor Bolick and Stella Bryant; parents, Thomas and Leah Cress; grandmother, Tillie Weber Carden; brothers, Colby Cress (Meredith), Turner Cress, and Taylor Cress; former wife, Amy Fallon; uncles, Bill Carden (Barbara) and Ken Cress (Noreen); aunt, Trish Gregg (Bruce); niece, Maddie Cress; nephews, Mason Cress, and Carden Grey Cress; cousins, Matthew Carden, Kara Neureuther, and William Carden; and a host of family and friends.
