Commander Owen Gene Barlow, Sr. was born in Boonville, Arkansas October 10th, 1928. He peacefully concluded his journey on Earth March 26th, 2016. Owen "Gene" Barlow was a self made, highly educated, decorated officer in the Navy. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
Gene received a Chemical Engineering Degree from Arkansas Polytechnic College in 1948 and was recruited by the Navy. He was a commissioned as a Naval Aviator in 1950. Upon returning as a decorated officer from the Korean War, he joined the Naval Reserve. He logged 6000 flight hours in his naval career where his last duty station was Commander of the Naval Aviation Unit VP-793. In 1962 he received a law degree from Arkansas Law School, a Masters Degree in Banking in 1970 from SMU and a Juris Doctor in Law from Arkansas Law School in 1979.
He was a long time bank officer at Union National Bank of Little Rock starting as a loan officer and concluding as Senior Vice President.
His longtime affection for baseball led to golf. He moved to a house on North Hills County Club in Sherwood and remained there until his death. He was an active member and former President of the North Hills Country Club.
He is preceded in death by his younger brother William Barlow.
He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 62 years, Dawn. His children Owen Gene Barlow Jr., Heather Barlow, Deana Barlow and Dawn Darter. Daughter-in-law Linda Barlow, son-in-law Gary Darter, grandchildren Adam Barlow, Joshua Barlow, Scott Darter, Melissa Darter Halter and John Halter.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Little Rock, AR on April 1st, 2016 at 3:00 pm.
Visitation will be held at Huson Funeral Home, Sherwood, AR on Thursday at 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his honor to Immaculate Conception Catholic Chuch.
