Clyde Harlis “Mickey” Mahan, age 81, of Royal, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
He was born on May 19, 1942, in Pearcy, the son of Harlis Ambry Mahan and Zelma Christine “Dutch” Rowell Mahan. In 2017 the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Mahan, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Gloria “Jeanne” Billings.
Mickey was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. He was a proud United States Army Veteran and in the United States Army Reserves serving for 22 years and ranking Sergeant First Class at retirement. Mickey graduated high school in 1960 from Lake Hamilton High School. He worked for 30 years before retiring from Southwestern Bell, but never lost his love of the open road from his truck driving days.
Mickey and Dot enjoyed taking their camper to the lake and spending time outdoors, where he mastered the art of grilling and smoking. Some of the things he did to pass the time were going to the casino to play the slot machines and watching NASCAR. But nothing compared to the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was one hundred percent a family man, being as his wife, sons and grandchildren meant the world to him. He was proud of his sons and could be found talking all day about the grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, James “Randy” and Mary Jo Mahan and Michael and Jennifer Mahan; five grandchildren, Abbey Mahan, Garret Mahan, Grace Mahan, Mara Mahan and Connor Mahan; his brother and sister-in-law, Ricky and Rosemary Mahan; extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
