Clora Childress, 89 of Bismarck, passed away April 1st at home after a lengthy illness. Born June 3, 1919 in Bismarck, AR. to Wash and Belva Gardner Shuffield, she was a member and past Sunday School teacher at Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Royce Childress; her triplet grandsons, Timmy, Jimmy, and Johnny Childress; her parents; three brothers, Herman, Hugh, and A.L. Shuffield; and four sisters, Ruby Emory, Zelma Irwin, Carrie Emory, and Alma Whitfield.
Survivors include her husband of 74 ½ years, Hilman Childress; and Granddaughter and husband Pam and Andy Bell, and Great Grandsons, Dustin and Jordan, all of Bismarck; Daughter-in-law and husband Pat and Don Daniels, Granddaughter, Anna Smith and her husband Terry and sons Andrew and Aaron; Step Grandson, Blake Bell and wife Meredith and children Adam, Allie and Jarrett, all of Arkadelphia; Sister in law Nettie Burchfield of Hot Springs; Brother-in-law Charlie Whitfield of Bismarck, Special friends, Joan and Jerald Friday and Barbara Loy, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
The family would like to give thanks for the extraordinary care and love Clora received throughout the years by everyone, especially to her devoted friend and caregiver of 8 ½ years, Joan Hearnsberger Friday, Barbara and Shelly Loy, Terra Smith, Baptist Home Health and Hospice of Arkadelphia and honorary minister Cecil Sutley.
Pallbearers are Dustin, Jordan, and Blake Bell, Terry Smith, Terry and Perry Hearnsberger with Honorary Pallbearers, Eugene Small, Randy Burchfiled, Denver Lee Shuffield, and Kerry and Zachary Hearnsberger; Pianist Joan Hearnsberger Friday, and soloist Berry Hearnsberger.
She will lie in state Friday from 1-5 at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia with visitation and viewing starting at 1:00 pm prior to the service Saturday April 4 at 2:00 pm at the Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Bismarck with Danny Kilcrease and Jerald Friday officiating. Burial is at Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Valley Cemetery Fund at Southern Bancorp in Bismarck.
