Cleoma Wells Brown, 87, of Little Rock was welcomed into eternal rest by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 23, 2023. There to meet her for that glorious reunion were her beloved husband, Robert E. Brown, her daughters, Dianne Turley and Pam Winslow, her parents, Cleo Wells and Gladys Sanders, her brother, Don Wells, and a host of departed family and friends.
Left to cherish their Mama’s memory are her devoted daughters, Debbie Turley and Linda Turley Pounders. Five treasured grandchildren, Melanie (Chris) Lyons, Shannon McGill, Tony Winslow, Zachary (Sam) Pounders, and Hunter Pounders. And her precious great-grandchildren, Abigail, Greyson, and Cameron Hoover and Remi Kate Pounders. Many extended family members and loving friends will continue to be blessed by the memory of Cleoma’s kind and gentle spirit.
Cleoma was born on December 30, 1935. She was the eldest child of Cleo Wells and Gladys Sanders and big sister to Don Wells. She was a beautiful woman in every sense of the word. She had a keen sense of aesthetic beauty which led her to become a beautician. In her thirty-year career, she worked at Bernard’s Beauty Shop in Rolling Fork, Mississippi and Montgomery Ward in Little Rock.
Cleoma’s sense of beauty also extended to her love of beautiful music and words. She enjoyed playing the organ and writing poetry. She had such talent that one of her poems was once considered for song lyrics by a publishing company.
Cleoma enjoyed singing gospel music and singing to her beloved husband, Bob, whom she affectionately referred to as “Johnny REB”. Her daughters recall their Mama playfully prancing around Bob while singing in a sweet Betty Boop voice, “I wanna be loved by you, just you, and nobody else but you!”
Cleoma’s sweet spirit can only be attributed to her passionate love for her Savior. She was saved and baptized as a child and was a devoted member of Delta City Baptist Church in Delta City, Mississippi.
She loved reading her Bible and was always quick to share her faith through Bible verses.
Whether a new acquaintance or a life-long family member, all who knew Cleoma were blessed by how freely and completely she loved and by her sincere “I love you, baby” with each good-bye. It is with great grief, yet Heavenly comfort, that her family and friends await their glad reunion day.
The family will receive visitors at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct, Little Rock on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 5pm – 7pm.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 1pm at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla, Mississippi where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Pastor Nick Smith of Delta City Baptist Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Delta City Baptist Church at PO Box 119, Delta City, Mississippi 39061 or to a foundation of your choice.
