Clara Bierwirth Oliver, 91, passed away January 15, 2015. Born in Avilla (Saline County) to William H. and Ida Murray Bierwirth, she was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church where she served on the Fellowship Board, was active in the Tuesday morning ladies' Bible Study and Treasurer of the Prime-Timers group. Clara served during WWII as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy and retired from Southwestern Bell in 1987 and volunteered with the Pioneers. She enjoyed doing sewing and embroidery work for local schools.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, William F. Oliver, brother, William Bierwirth, sister, Wilma Richey and step-daughter, Ann Morgan, she is survived by her stepson, William Oliver (Ruth) of Greenwood; sister, Carolyn Halbert of Fayetteville; brothers, Kenneth Bierwirth (Beth) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Nicholas Bierwirth of Texas; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a host of other family and friends.
Services will be Wednesday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Dan Hauser, followed by interment with Military Honors at Rest Hills Memorial Park in Sherwood. Visitation will precede the service at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.
