Charlton Hoyt "C. H." Lloyd, age 97, of Caddo Gap, died Friday, January 7, 2011. He was born on June 1, 1913, at Belton, Texas, the son of James Howard Lloyd and Teanna Lot Lloyd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene Tweedle Lloyd; nine brothers; and three sisters. He was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran where he served as corporal in the Philippines during the invasion of Guadalcanal and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. Mr. Lloyd owned and operated Rite-Way Sand Company in Houston, Texas and worked in construction. He raised, trained and raced thoroughbreds and quarter horses. In the early 1980's, he moved to the Glenwood/Caddo Gap area and enjoyed being part of the communities, making many dear friends that he cherished deeply. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tom H. and Theresa Lloyd of Austin, Texas; his granddaughter and her husband, Sarah and Bert Mills of Tacoma, Washington; his great-granddaughter, Anna Mills; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 11, 2011, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Keith Shewbart officiating. Interment will be in the Hopper Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Visitation will be Tuesday, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Keith Horn, Mark Cogburn, John Hollifield, Bruce Price, Brad Rudolph and Wendell Coffman. Honorary pallbearers will be James P. Horn and the doctors, nurses and staff of the Montgomery County Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hopper Cemetery Association, c/o Avadelle Cogburn, 326 Oak Grove Road, Caddo Gap, Arkansas 71935. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
