Charlotte Toombs, 85, of Akadelphia, died November 12, 2015 at Little Rock Baptist Hospital surrounded by family. She was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, on March 26, 1930, to Raymond and Eloise Levins. She grew up in the community of Beirne and graduated from Gurdon Hign School. She received the Bachelor of Arts Degree from Henderson State University, where she was employed for 28 years as administrative secretary in academic affairs. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Billy Joe Toombs, her parents, and her sister, Crystal Varnell. She and her husband were charter members of New Life Church of Arkadephia, where she served as bookkeeper in the early years of the church and also as teacher and leader of the Women's prayer group. She served as a volunteer with the Kairos-Torch Prison ministry at the Alexander Youth Facility as prayer intercessor.
She is survived by two daughters: Sue Zan Eley of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Luci Stephens and husband, Gary, of North Little Rock and five grandchildren - Holly Richey, and husband Chris from Helena, Arkansas; Chad Eleyand wife Leslie of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Shane Stephens and wife Ashley of Spring Hill, Tennessee; Scott Stephens and wife Kimberly of North Little Rock; Amber Greb and husband Nick of Maumelle; eight great-grandchildren: Ben Eley, Ryan and Jon Richey, Landon and Tyler Stephens, Elise Stephens, Sophia and Weston Greb; one brother, Robert Levins and wife Alice of Beebe along with her many neices and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1pm Monday, November 16 at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia with the reverend Martin Jones, pastor of New Life Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 am - 1 pm with the service following. Internment will be in Brown Cemetery in Beirne. Memorials may be made to New Life Church, 139 High School Road, Arkadelphia, AR.
