Charley John Paul Stringer, 90, of Bowling Green, KY and formerly of Owasso, Oklahoma, entered into the gates of Heaven on Wednesday November 12, 2014 at Hospice House of Southern Kentucky. Chuck was born April 3, 1924 in Highland, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents Simon and Sarah Stringer, two sisters Gladys Fischer and Edna Mills.
Chuck was a retired accountant from Chevron Oil Co. in Tulsa, OK. and a founding member of Crossland Community Church in Bowling Green, KY. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in WWII. Chuck's B24 the "Floogieboo," was shot down behind enemy lines May 6, 1944. He was captured and imprisoned in a German camp until liberated by allies. Chuck flew 26 missions as a top gunner, earning seven medals including the Purple Heart.
Chuck and Sue have been residents of Bowling Green for the past 12 years. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and a Boston Celtics fan. In addition to his love for sports, Chuck also enjoyed fishing and expressing his joy through singing.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Sue Chandler Stringer, son Roy Scott Stringer of San Francisco, CA, two step-sons Craig Chandler (Marrillyn Chandler) of Orlando, FL, and David Chandler of Bowling Green, KY, one grandson Michael Chandler of Orlando, FL, one sister Marie Kaehler of Grand Junction, CO, and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
Visitation will be Friday November 14, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel in Bolling Green, KY with a graveside service Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia, AR, Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home is handling the graveside services.
