Charles Phillip Toland, Sr., 84, passed peacefully on January 29, 2020. He was surrounded by his family and left this earth at 6:53 a.m. Charles was born on June 27, 1935 in Little Rock. He graduated from Central High in 1952 and married Nancy Story Toland, with whom he had two children. He went on to attend college at UALR, LSU and SMU before settling down in Little Rock again with his family.
Charles loved his family dearly. He was very active in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and he had a special, unique bond with each of them. Over the years, he watched his family grow which afforded him the ability to be a part of the lives of his children and grandchildren's friends as well. He was a grandpa, dad, husband, uncle, son, partner, and teacher; but, to anyone who knew him, he will always be "Papa."
Charles was preceded in death by his mother and father and survived by his children, Susan Cookus and Chuck Toland; grandchildren, Keith Cookus, Lindsay Van Parys (Matt), and Jacob Toland; and three great-grandchildren, Myles, Gray and Shelby.
Services will be Saturday, February 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), (501)224-2200. Charles' online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
